inspiration
experimenting and constructing
I am a mixed media artist and I’m at my happiest when I’m experimenting and constructing with paint, paper, clay, beads, seaglass, and driftwood.
My inspiration comes from the sense of connection I feel to the landscape, to my loved ones past and present, and to the materials I choose to create with.
A Wirral girl born and bred, I have always lived by the sea and believe it is now so imprinted on my very being that I could never dwell too far from the coast. Sounds, sights, smells, ever changing light, and weather are my starting point, though it is hoped that a felt sense of the experience is expressed rather than a literal depiction of the landscape.
Visits to other coastlines always bring new and exciting developments and explorations. The coast makes my heart sing with joy, whether it’s a rocky Cornish cliff top, a wide stretch of golden Anglesey sand or a quiet little Scottish harbour. All bring unique and diverse responses – offering new explorations and chances to develop a new artistic vocabulary.
I hope you enjoy exploring this site and if you do and would like to have regular updates about my arty explorations, please subscribe to my only ever occasional email news via the contact page. Find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter too.

We have admired and collected Jo’s work for a few years
so she was the natural choice for us when we decided to commission a triptych for a special anniversary, to commemorate the love and enjoyment we share for the natural beauty around where we live. Jo came to our home to view the space and took time to understand exactly what we wanted and we looked together at examples of her work and other art for tones and effect. She then went away and worked on some pastel sketches, came back to us, listened to our feedback, did some more work on one of the sketches, all of which were a faithful impression of the final canvases. We were delighted with the results, which enhance the enjoyment of our living space. We cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone who, like us, loves her work and is looking for a beautifully unique and collaborative work of art for a special space at home or work. Thank you always and forever Jo, your art brings us much joy every day!
